A hundred years of Mapua School have been immortalised in the latest art work to be installed.
On the 13 June 2016, 13 year old Tuscan Papworth, an ex-Mapua student, unveilled his sculpture entitled Looking Back, Moving Forward. As the sculpture was revealed the students, staff and parents oohed and aahed before clapping in awe of the captivating sculpture.
Tuscan had given a lot of thought to what the sculpture was representing. The outside ring symbolised the world and beyond, the inner circle represents …. and the central spiralling part represented all the students and teachers moving upwards and onwards.
Part of the ceremony was the people blessing the sculpture by dipping their hands into sea water (freezing cold water!) and sprinkling it onto the sculpture. Everyone loved being able to touch the sculpture.
After thanking Tuscan we all had kai – yummy iced cakes – to complete the celebrations.
